The World of Roma through the eyes of Mila Doleželová

About the project

The project aims to revive an immovable cultural monument - the site of the former Jesuit college in Telč. The aim is to elevate the already functioning and used premises to a higher level, to open them more to the public and local communities and to create a socio-cultural centre of Telč, with an outreach beyond the region.

The main aim is to draw public attention to the extraordinary work of the painter Míla Doleželová and her husband Jiří Mareš by creating an exhibition space and making an exhibition of their paintings available. The intention to build an exhibition stems directly from the will of Míla Doleželová, who wished to have a gallery with her paintings in Telč. The presentation of the works will be complemented by other activities. For leisure use, we will create two art studios where art, music and dance workshops or courses will be held. In cooperation with the Museum of Romani Culture, a partner of the project, we will organise a series of educational and cultural events for school pupils from the region and for the general public. We will make sure that as many activities as possible are accessible to disabled citizens.

Our steps will thus lead towards the creation of a permanent exhibition in Telč, which, in cooperation with other local actors, should actively contribute not only to the care of cultural heritage, but also to the development of local civic life and education across society. Our ambition is to build a community centre around Míla Doleželová's work, which will be accessible to all without distinction.
